"There aren’t many people in Australia who have actually seen North Carolina rock and roll band Reigning Sound in the flesh and it’s looking less and less likely each year that they’ll ever make it out here to Australia. Well there is a way you can come close to the experience, and that is to get down to Yah Yah’s this Sunday night when Australia’s one and only Reigning Sound tribute band, Reigning Men, hit the stage and blast out the hits of Greg Cartwright and Co. I’m not sure if they take requests but they’re really really good. They’ll be joined by Chris Altmann of Vandas fame and his new band Que Paso. Reigning Sound, I mean, Reigning Men, this Sunday 21^st February at Yah Yah’s."

Went to this today, scored some good records off Dan Distort, drank some beer and watched The Breadmakers. A perfect sunday arvo i'd say.

Rest In Peace, The Tote Hotel

For anyone in Melbourne, this was THE rock n' roll bar and venue. In the last year i got to the point where i would just go there in the knowledge someone i knew would be on the bar. This is a real loss for us in Melbs. The looming closure rumours came and went and no one could ever consider a replacement for it. It was nice to go back for one last time and drink with friends and soak up the memories. This bar will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dan Lewis is a short man who wears glasses. He also knows most of Melbourne which is a great effort since he was born and raised in New Zealand. He likes music and birthday parties so he has combined his birthday party and music and come up with his birthday party gig at the tote. Popolice are playing and it's an ex New Zealand guy making deadly noisy pop.

Dachen are also playing and they feature a member from Woollen Kits. XTX are playing this shindig and they feature members from repairs and Splitfoot.Hammocks and Honey are playing and this is a wozza who is really into lady gaga and glitter so lets hope she is into tight spandex costumes as well.

There is also some band called the Warragul Disgrace who will play last and some of them are from Warragul and all are disgraceful.After the bands have played to get every one in the mood for loving and shagging there will be love of diagrams djing and shags will also be djing. Spooky Records is having their 10 year anniversary this saturday at the TOTE- lots of bands, beer and a free BBQ!

Ooga Boogas

The Ooga Boogas will be playing their last show for the year this thursday(5th Nov) at The Tote. They've just recorded a new 7 inch and it looks like they're taking a break(i imagine because Mikey has a big summer coming up with E.C.S.R shows).

Bleach will be coming on for their first ever show at 7:50 so if you want to see them come down early. Followed by Ditchling (Brendan Black of the Stabs) Chrome Dome, Pets with Pets and the Oogas.

The night will end with the screening of Festival Genialer Dilletanten (Berlin, 1981)

The first Issue of Disco Rough is being printed on Thursday and will be for Sale on the night.

Issue One focuses on the legendary Zick Zack Records – the label synonymous with the birth of German New Wave in 1979.

It features interviews with some of the most important bands from this time including Einsturzende Neubauten, Freiwillige Selbskontrolle, Palais Schaumburg, Wirtchaftswunder and Die Todliche Doris.

Late Arvo Sons launch the film clip for the song Skin this Thursday 15th Oct in the cobra bar at the Tote. 7.30 start, 8.00 screening then a quick set afterwards.

This was a good time!

I got in just before the film clip was played. It was filmed at The Tote and unfortunately i can't remember the name of the guy who made it(i'll add it here when i find out!), anyways it came out looking really cool. It was a cold and rainy night but there was a good group of people there for the showing. To celebrate it, the guys played a few songs.

This Saturday Late Arvo Sons are launching their debut album. I've heard a few of the tracks and they sound great. It was recorded with Mikey Young so you know it's quality already. Supporting them are Chinese Burns, Trophy Wives and Lost Burrows. It'll cost $10 and it starts at 8pm.
