Batrider - Beaks Tour

The last time i saw Batrider was in New Zealand at Camp A Low Hum. I also went to karaoke with them the night after with some of Love Connection and Milk Teddy. They are a pretty fun bunch. Sarah belted out a wild Mariah Carey number.

Batrider have lived in Melbourne, Wellington, London and i have a feeling they've been hanging out in Adelaide recently.

Lately i've been listening to more Batrider, Love Of Diagrams, The Drones, Milk Teddy and The Clean. Getting softer as the winters kicked in i suppose.

I haven't been to the Lithuanian Club before so i'm keen to check it out. Also Pets With Pets and Woollen Kits are supporting which is rad!

I know that X is going over to the US for the Chaos In Tejas festival and having a send off show with the UV Race on the same night at Ding Dong Lounge. I hate Ding Dong so i think Batrider takes my vote for this one.

Black Lips - Corner Hotel Review

Electric Smile Band
UV Race
The Twerps
Black Lips

Corner Hotel - 4th Feb 2010

This was fun, thought the line up was good. Nobody knew who E.S.B were before they played, i believe one or 2 of them are from Children Collide. They sounded nothing like C.C, they were like some fucked up MC5 psych/garage band. MC5 jamming on Dirtbombs or something. Pretty sick.

UV's played good. HADUKEN, HADUKEN, CONFUSION, CONFUSION. Went down good. Marcus told a very the crowd about a strange dream he'd had involving a cat, his father and a cop raping him. Marcus also had one of his top 5 costumes ever. DX had a great call from the back of the stage in the dark, "Can i get more spotlight on me?". The place started to really fill up when UV's were on.

The Twerps were good, i don't see them enough. Been caining the 7"/CD lately. Marty was in fine form. Good stuff. They had some killer multi-coloured shirts at the show for sale, i wish i'd had the cash for one.

The show was sold out, a good 800 people there for the Black Lips. The crowd was made up of people who like the UV Race and then 450 odd dickheads. Lots of crowd surfing, lots of idiots on the stage. The band didn't impress me much, they seemed to just fuck around the whole time they were on the stage. Weird set list, weird vibes from the band. I hear their dicks, i can see that being the case.

Jay Reatard Tribute Review

I got to kick things off by DJ'ing which was cool, then there was a showing of an early Jay Reatard/Boston Chinks Euro tour. Useless Children killed my ears and played a ruling set. UV Race did a strong set, also played a new song which i thought was sick. Kamikaze stole the night with their Reatard covers and audience participation. Dj's Tom Mcguigan, Candy Cut, DX and Brain Children were also sick.

I have video, gimme a few hours and it'll be up(it's worth it!)

Jay Reatard Tribute Show

Jay Reatard died last week at the age of 29, one of the most prolific punk musicians and song writers of our time, leaving behind a legacy of hundreds of records, thousands of songs and millions of shows in about 20 different bands over the last 15 years.

In the last two years, he'd toured Australia twice to rabid response from Melbourne, and on Saturday 30th January Melbourne is returning the favour by paying tribute to his life and music with a one-off show at the Ding Dong Lounge featuring reatarded Melbourne bands like Kamikaze Trio, The UV Race and Useless Children.

DJs Candy Cut, Pissing On The Mainframe and Stained Circles will blast tunes from his enormous back catalogue, and songs that influenced him or were written influenced by him.

And as a one off, we will be projecting footage from one of his wildest shows in his first European tour with the Jay Reatard band early in the night. Doors are at 8:00pm,

Entry is $10, money from the door will go towards a charity to be elected by Jay's father specific to his life in Memphis.

8:30-9:00pm JAY REATARD LIVE
9:00pm-9:30pm STAINED CIRCLES DJ

If only every weekend was as good...

Well that was one of the best weekends i've had.

Twerps and Beaches at Abbruzzo Club on Friday.

- I really enjoyed the show being somewhere else than the usual venue thing. I got in just at Beaches were starting- one of my favourite Melb bands but i always miss their shows. It was nice to see such a good turnout for the show actually. The Twerps were great, everyone was into it. I had to run just as they finished. Love the 7!

U.V Race, Royal Headache, Deaf Wish and Breaker Morant at Ding Dong on Saturday.

- I'd been thinking about this show for ages, it was a dream line up for me. I got to the show at like 8:01 to avoid missing Breaker- i thought they were a good opening to the night. I hadn't seen them in a long while and they sounded just as good but totally different than i remembered. During Deaf Wish i was buying multiple jugs before 10:00 as they shot up from $10 to more than i could afford. They did a good set, very loud and heavy.

Royals are so good- if you don't know it yet you'll be kicking yourself when you finally figure it out. UV's did an amazing set, the whole crowd went mental- i have some nice bruised knee to show for it. I love the U.V shirt i got as well, Georgia did a bunch of different designs on them.

Sunday.

I spent tonight over in Northcote at Willow Bar as Jack P invited me to play some records and drink beer. It was a great way to end the weekend. Hope you had a good'n too.

I took the weekend off taking my camera out to just drink and party so if i find some good photos i'll throw up a link. Check the U.V LP article on Mess+Noise for punter reviews.

Melbourne Flip Out '09

I had a great day at Flip Out on saturday. I was lucky enough to be Stage Manager for it. Thanks to all the bands and punters for making it such a sick day. And of course Dan and Johanna for setting it all up and making this happen. Oh! and Rigid for bringing out James Arthurs Manhunt.

There wasn't a band playing i didn't like, but of them all i'd say my favourites would have been:

TEEN ARCHER
DICK DIVER
JAMES ARTHURS MANHUNT
SLUG GUTS
GOODNIGHT LOVING
OOGA BOOGAS
SUPER WILD HORSES
ROYAL HEADACHE

I took some photos, ran around all day and managed to drink a few beers on the side.

Teen Archer

James Arthur

Slug Guts

Ooga Boogas aka THE DOORS

Super Wild Horses

I really dug Dan Lewis and the Brain Children dj sets, was great to see peeps still rocking at 3am after such a long day.
